This week’s COMPUTEX is starting to blast off and there are a lot of happenings already. While the show will actually start tomorrow, some brands chose to unveil their new products through their own press events, such as ASUS. One headliner is that they chose to unveil an addition to the ROG family – a gaming smartphone.
Dubbed as the ‘ROG Phone’, it sports impressive specs, which are mostly world’s first, including a 90Hz AMOLED panel, and Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 with Kryo CPUs overclocked to 2.9GHz. Aside from those noteworthy features, it also sports Qualcomm’s X20 LTE Modem, which enables Gigabit LTE in a snap, basically making it an extremely premium phone not only for gamers but also for power users alike.
But it doesn’t stop there. There’s also HDR on the display as well as 1ms response time, ideally for game and entertainment content consumption. ASUS also emphasized the ultrasonic sensors on its sides which would act as shoulder buttons, just like on gaming controllers.
It also got stereo speakers on the front, and on the back, there’s a distinctive ROG logo, with RGB of course, as well as a stylized and uniquely-positioned rear fingerprint reader.
What makes it special is that there are accessories that can be mounted to it, similarly to a concept like MotoMods. One of them is the AeroActive cooler, which acts, obviously as a cooler and cools the phone from intensive gaming sessions. It also gives you an additional headphone jack and USB-C port to complement its obstruction. Other accessories include Mobile Desktop Dock, the WiGig Dock by Gamevice, and the TwinView Dock.
Obviously, this would compete with the Razer Phone and Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming smartphone.
